The CAD
The MDT
The MDT (mobile data terminal) is the CAD as a car computer: a smaller screen for the officer, with the buttons they use all the time. It is in the CAD under MDT, and it opens in a window of its own from the CAD's Pop out menu. Each department has its own, with its own screens, words and status buttons. The screens have function keys, F1 to F8, and you can click the tabs too.
| MDT | Screens |
|---|---|
| Police | Calls, Lookup, BOLOs, Warrants, Records, Units, Radio, Flock |
| Fire & EMS | Incidents, Map, Units, Radio |
| DOT | Jobs, Map, Vehicles, Units, Radio |
- Status buttons. Police use 10-codes (10-8 available, 10-76 en route, 10-23 on scene, 10-6 busy, 10-7 off duty). Fire and DOT use plain words: in service, responding, on scene, busy, off duty.
- Calls. Your calls, the one you are on, and the buttons to take one, add a note or clear.
- Lookup. Type a name or plate (police). From a result you can start a BOLO or write a citation with it already filled in.
- Flock. Pick a camera to watch its area on a live map, with the people in range, their cars, and what it has read.
- Radio. Talk on the channels and use quick buttons such as 10-8, Traffic stop and Code 4 for police, Responding and Transporting for fire, or Tow secured for DOT. The quick buttons are the same ones the radio shows.
Pick how your MDT looks with the buttons above it: Standard, Compact (a small terminal with the screens on a tab bar) or Rugged (a vehicle tablet with big buttons, a day and night screen, and F1 to F5 for your status). All three show the same screens, and your choice is saved on your account.
