Setting up

#1. Add the bot

Sign in with Discord from the dashboard. Every server you manage is listed. Press Add Uplink next to yours and approve the invite. It asks to view channels, send messages, embed links and manage channels. Manage Channels is only used to make the log channels for you, and you can decline it and pick your own.

When the bot joins, it makes a private Uplink category with seven log channels, links them on the dashboard, and says hello with the next steps. The list is below.

#2. Connect ER:LC

On the dashboard your server has a box for its ER:LC key. In your private server's settings, find the API section and copy the server key, paste it in, and press Connect ER:LC. Uplink checks it with ER:LC before saving it, then stores it encrypted. Within seconds the live view fills in. If nobody is in the server it shows as empty and starts when someone joins.

Only the owner has the key. You need to be the owner of the private server, or have it shared with you, to see the API section. Anyone who can manage your Discord server can paste it in.
Do not skip this one. Without it the dashboard still shows your server, but every kick, ban, message and teleport from the dashboard or the bot is refused. The owner of the private server approves Uplink once, with a link, in about thirty seconds. Exactly how, below.

#4. Pick roles and channels

Open your server on the dashboard, then Settings. Choose the admin, moderator and helper roles, and where each log goes, or press Set up channels for me. Each level can have several roles, up to ten: add as many admin roles and moderator roles as you have, and anyone with any one of them gets that level. In Discord, /setup sets the main role for each level.

The Overview page has a Get set up list that shows which of these four steps are done and what to press next. It goes away when you are finished.
