The Uplink Network
The Uplink Network is the phone's Network app. It connects players across every server that uses Uplink, so you can text, make group chats and call people who are not in your server.
- Your number. Everyone is given a phone number (like 482-1937) the moment they sign in. It is yours, and it is different from the 555 number your character has in a server. Your picture is your Roblox avatar once you have linked your Roblox account, and you can pick your face, your full body or your Discord picture in Your Network profile. You can change the name people see there too.
- Finding people. In Friends open Add and type a phone number, a Discord ID (or @mention) or a Roblox username. Friends can be added to group chats. You can message anyone by their number, and you can block a person so they cannot message or call you.
- Chats. Texts are up to 500 characters, with 20 messages a minute. The same chat rules as the radio apply to messages and to group names: no links, invites or language that is not allowed. A group has up to 20 people. The person who makes it can rename it and remove people, and anyone can leave.
- Pictures. Send your Roblox avatar, any player's avatar or a Roblox item, game icon or decal by its ID. Only pictures from Roblox itself can be sent.
- Calls. Press the phone in a chat to call one person or a whole group (up to 8 on one call). The audio goes straight between your devices and is never recorded. It needs your microphone. On a network that blocks direct connections a call may not connect.
- Reports. Press the red Report button at the top of a chat (or the flag beside a message) and say what happened. You can send one report every 2 minutes. The report goes to Uplink's moderators, who get a thread of its own with the conversation and a link to the chat. When a moderator joins a chat, it says (name) with Uplink Moderation has joined the chat so nobody is watched without knowing.
- Badges. Names can carry a badge: Uplink Staff, Uplink Support, Verified Chat Moderator, Developer or Partnered Server Owner. Only Uplink gives them.
- How long chats are kept. Messages are deleted 48 hours after they are sent. While they exist, Uplink's moderators can read them, and a copy of every message is posted to a private channel in Uplink's own Discord server. A report keeps a copy of the chat around it for 30 days. Moderators can timeout (can read, cannot send or call), temporarily ban or ban a person from the Network.
#For Uplink's chat moderators
Moderators are the people with the Uplink system moderator role in the Uplink server, and the Uplink team. They use /network/mod, which has these tabs: Reports, People (everyone who has signed in, with their Discord and Roblox accounts, the servers they are citizens in and their cars, their chats, what they sent, their phone activity and their history), Servers (who is in each server), Chats, Marketplace and UpMe (reported listings and posts) and Activity (what moderators did). It also opens straight to a report, chat or person from the links in Discord, and the /network command in the Uplink server (view, chat, lookup, timeout, tempban, ban, unban, reports, report, close). Phone activity lists everything the person did on their phone in the last 30 days: opening and closing the phone, locking and unlocking it, opening and closing apps, App Store downloads, calls (who, answered or missed, and how long), messages, friends, UpWallet money, Marketplace, Jobs, UpMe posts, likes, comments and follows, 911 calls and texts, with a filter for each kind. Passcodes are never shown. Everything a moderator opens is recorded in an audit log. Badges are given in the staff panel by the owner and the core and oversight team.
