Using Uplink

Developers and the UplinkOS developer API

Anyone can build apps for UplinkOS, the phone inside Uplink. Open the Developer portal from your dashboard to apply.

  • Apply. Sign in with Discord and fill in the developer application. Right now only the UplinkOS developer API is open. The Uplink owners read every application in the Uplink Development server, and the Uplink API bot messages you with the answer. If you are not approved you can apply again after 7 days.
  • Your API key. Once approved, make your key on the API key page. It starts with upk_, is shown once, and only one works at a time. Every call is logged for 30 days, with a limit of 60 calls a minute.
  • Submit an app. An UplinkOS app is a web page you host on your own https address. Submitting it walks you through five steps and asks for the code it is built from: upload a .zip, .tar.gz or the code files (up to 25 MB each, 60 MB per version), link the repository on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Codeberg with the branch or commit to review, or both. It also asks for an icon, screenshots, a privacy policy and support link, what data it collects, an age rating and notes for the reviewer. You can also send versions with the API.
  • Review. Every version is checked by the Uplink owners. Approved apps appear under From developers in the App Store, and open full screen in a sandboxed frame that can not see Uplink's cookies or data. Rejected versions come back with what to fix.
  • Rules. No real money payments, malware, hidden tracking or asking for passwords or keys, and the hosted app must match the code you sent. Uplink can remove an app or revoke developer access at any time.
