Using Uplink

Departments

A department is a group of your players with a roster and ranks of its own: a police department, a fire service, a tow company. Admins make them on the Departments page by picking the Discord roles that are your departments with From Discord roles: each role you pick becomes a department with that role's name and colour, tied to the role, and nothing is made in Discord. You can also add one by hand, or start from a ready-made Police, Sheriff, Fire and EMS or DOT department, and change anything after. Each has a colour, ranks in order, an ER:LC team to count, a Discord role for members and a channel for roster changes.

  • The overview shows every department at once: members, who is in the server now, how many were active this week and the total time played.
  • A department's page shows its members, who is in the server, who is on leave or suspended, and who is inactive (has not joined in a week). A chart shows the time played each day, and the ranks show how many sit at each one, with the people at the top as its leadership.
  • The roster can be searched and sorted by rank, name, time played, last seen or how long they have been there. Click a person for their profile: their Roblox and Discord, how much they have played, their cases, and how they came to their rank.
  • Moderators run it. They add players by Roblox username (a linked Discord account is found automatically), promote and demote with the arrows, change callsigns and status, move people between departments and remove them. Members get the department's Discord role when they join and lose it when they leave.
  • Every change is logged, and the roster can be downloaded as a spreadsheet. Time played is worked out from who joined and left your server, so it covers the last seven days.
  • Department shifts. Members clock in and out for their department on the Shifts page, with breaks. A department can have a weekly quota in hours: the roster shows who met it over the last 7 days, and people on leave are not counted against it.
  • Shift pay. When a member clocks out, they are paid into their UpWallet for the time they worked. Each department can set its own hourly pay, or 0 for none; otherwise the server's default from Settings is used. More below.

#Linked department servers

Many departments run their own Discord server. Link it to its department here, and the people in it become part of that department in your main server without joining your main Discord. Uplink has to be in both servers.

  • Linking. An admin of the main server opens the department and presses Link a server. That gives a link to send to an admin of the department's server. They open it, pick their server and confirm. The link works once and runs out after a day.
  • Who joins the roster. Pick a member role in the department server, or leave it on everyone. People with that role are added to the roster as soon as they have a Roblox account linked to Uplink, and they come off it when they lose the role or leave that server. They show as Linked on the roster.
  • Ranks from roles. Give any rank a role from the department server. Each person gets the highest rank whose role they hold, and it changes when their roles change there. Leave every rank without a role to promote and demote by hand.
  • Head roles. People with a head role in the department server can open that department on the main server's dashboard.
  • Shift channel. Pick a channel in the department server, and shift starts and ends, plus roster changes, are posted there as well.
  • What members get. The main server shows up on their dashboard. They clock in and out of department shifts there, their time counts toward the quota and shift pay, and their rank gives them the CAD access set for it.
  • Sync now checks everyone in the department server at once. Unlink stops it: people already on the roster stay as normal members. Removing Uplink from the department server unlinks it too.
