The CAD
Money and the DMV
Each server has its own play money in UpWallet. Everyone starts with $5,000, and money moves in these ways:
- Shift pay. Clocking out of a department shift pays the time worked. The default is $500 an hour, and each department can set its own (0 means unpaid). Shifts that end by themselves after 16 hours are not paid.
- Job pay. Clocking out of a job in the Jobs app pays the time spent in game. The defaults are $350 an hour for taxi drivers, $400 for tow truck drivers and mechanics, and $300 for delivery and bus drivers, with up to 4 paid hours a day.
- Fines. When an officer writes a citation or an arrest with a fine, the person behind it pays it from UpWallet and gets a notification on their phone. Uplink finds them by their citizen's Roblox account, or by their linked Roblox account. If they cannot cover it, it waits in their Wallet under Tickets to pay. The record shows the fine as paid or unpaid. Voiding the record gives a paid fine back and drops an unpaid one.
- The DMV. A driver license, reinstating a suspended license, registering a car, renewing its registration and insuring it each cost money. A revoked license cannot be bought back. When a license, a registration or insurance runs out, police see it when they run the name or plate: the MDT shows Expired license, Registration expired or No insurance.
- Between people. Sending money, requests and the Marketplace.
An admin sets it all in Settings under Economy: whether CAD fines are charged, the default shift pay, each job's hourly pay (set a job to $0 to turn it off), how many job hours a day are paid, each DMV price and how many days licenses, registrations and insurance last. A department's own pay is in its settings on the Departments page.
