The CAD
The civilian CAD and phone
Members of the server who are not police, fire or DOT use the Civilian CAD. There they make their character and their cars, and use a phone.
#Your citizen and cars
A citizen has a first and last name, date of birth, gender, address and a license status (valid, suspended, revoked or none). You can register up to ten cars with plate, model, colour and whether they are insured. Police see all of this when they look you up, and if you delete your citizen, your cars go with it.
Licenses, registrations and insurance run out after a set number of days (30 unless your server changes it). Registering a car is paid from your UpWallet, and so is renewing anything at the DMV app. Editing your citizen can lower your license, but not give a suspended, revoked or missing one back; that happens at the DMV. More below.
#The phone (UplinkOS)
The phone is an Uplink 14 running UplinkOS. It looks and works like an iPhone: a lock screen, a home screen with your wallpaper, apps that open full screen, notifications at the top and the side button to lock it. Every citizen gets a server phone number (like 555-0142) and an Uplink Network number. The apps:
- Phone. A keypad, your recent calls (kept on your account, so they show on every device, with missed calls and how long each one lasted) and your contacts. The presets are 911 (police, fire or EMS), DOT (a tow, for one of your cars) and Non-Emergency. Dial a 7-digit Network number to call another player on the Uplink Network. 911 is limited to two open calls and one every 10 minutes; DOT and non-emergency to one every 3 minutes. Dispatchers answer in Messages.
- Messages. One inbox for Network chats, server texts (555 numbers) and dispatcher replies. Start a chat by number, make a group, send Gallery photos and Roblox items, and report a chat to Uplink's moderators.
- Network. The Uplink Network: your profile, friends, friend requests and finding people by Discord ID or Roblox name. More below.
- Settings. A 4-number passcode to lock the phone, light or dark look, wallpapers (or one of your photos), sounds and Lock Now.
- UpWallet. Your cash for this server (everyone starts with $5,000 of play money). Cards stack like Apple Wallet: tap Cash or your ID to open it and the others slide away. Send money, request money, pay requests, and add your ID. Fines you could not cover wait under Tickets to pay, and paychecks, fines, DMV fees and refunds show in your transactions. Money in one server stays in that server.
- Marketplace. Sell ER:LC items with up to 4 photos from your Gallery, a price, a category and a description. Buying pays the seller from your UpWallet and opens a chat so you can meet in game. Any listing can be reported; reports go to Uplink moderators on the website and in the Discord server, and moderators can take a listing down.
- Finder. The ER:LC map. Share your live location (it follows you in game while your Roblox account is linked) or drop a pin, with your friends or everyone in the server, for 15 minutes up to until you stop. Friends who share show up on the map.
- Photos. Connect it to your Roblox window and press the shutter to save a screenshot to your Gallery. On a phone you can import a picture instead. You can save 60 photos an hour and keep up to 150.
- Gallery. Your screenshots. Send one in Messages, sell it on Marketplace, make it your wallpaper or delete it.
- ID. Your driver license and cars. Add the license to UpWallet, and report a car stolen (police get a BOLO straight away) or found.
- DMV. Get, renew or reinstate your driver license, register a car, and renew a car's registration or insurance. Each one is paid from UpWallet, and the app shows when each runs out.
- Jobs. Work as a taxi driver, tow truck driver, mechanic, delivery driver or bus driver and get paid into UpWallet when you clock out. You need your Roblox account linked and you need to be in the ER:LC server: time only counts while you are in game, and the shift ends by itself after 10 minutes away. You can be paid for 4 hours of job time in a day unless your server changes it. Anyone can also call a taxi, a tow truck, a mechanic or a delivery from the app. Your postal goes with the request if you are in game, everyone working that job gets a notification, and whoever takes it gets a chat with you. Requests nobody takes close after 30 minutes. More below.
- UpMe (coming soon). Social media for your server. Post up to 280 characters with up to 4 photos from your Gallery, like and comment on posts, and follow people. For you shows every post in the server and Following shows the people you follow. Activity lists likes, comments and new followers. Posts use the same filter as chats (no links or language that is not allowed), you can post 20 times an hour, and you can delete your own posts and any comment on them. Any post can be reported; reports go to Uplink moderators on the website and in the Discord server, and moderators can take a post down. People you block, or who block you, do not see each other's posts.
- App Store. Download more apps for free with GET. Themes adds 16 pre-made wallpapers. Calculator, Clock (clock, stopwatch and timer), Notes (private, up to 100), Contacts (save names with numbers, then message, call or pay them) and Calendar (plans for any day) are there too. Remove an app from the App Store page any time; your notes, contacts and plans stay saved.
#Uplink Mobile (the phone on your real phone)
Uplink Mobile is the civilian phone as an app on your iPhone or Android home screen. It is the website, so there is nothing to download from an app store.
- On your phone, open
/mobileon this site. On an iPhone use Safari. - Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen, and leave the name as Uplink Mobile. On Android, use Chrome's menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Open Uplink Mobile from your home screen and sign in with Discord. It opens full screen with no browser bars. With one server it opens straight into that server, and with several you pick one. The first time you open a server you make your civilian (your name, date of birth, license and, if you like, your car) before the phone opens. Your phone number and your Uplink Network number are given to you automatically. The Servers button at the top switches server. Nothing is stored on your phone except the sign-in cookie.
It runs UplinkOS with the same apps as the phone above and shows new texts and dispatcher replies as they arrive while it is open. It needs the civilian CAD in your server, so it works wherever the phone does. It does not send notifications when it is closed, and it opens, but cannot load anything, without a connection. Signing in on the home screen app is separate from signing in in Safari, so you sign in once in the app.
